News Hello from us all at the Pavilion. We would like to wish everybody a very happy May Day. Now the days are lengthening, and the weather is brightening and warming our thoughts, turn to more joyful things after the grey and rainy months of winter. Our football teams are having a fabulous season. The Sherfield English Women’s team have finished third in the Junior Plate competition, which is an amazing result for such a young team. Congratulations, ladies, you’ve been fabulous! The men’s first team are through to the Junior League Cup Final on Thursday 14th May. They would love your support, and it’s a great occasion to watch some superb football. See you there! With this better weather the netball players are now playing more regularly with fewer evenings rained off and Helen and the girls will make you very welcome. Fun and exercise together! The Sherfield English Bowls Club have been working hard getting the green in tiptop condition, and I believe play is now open. They are a lovely bunch and always welcome new faces either to become serious competition players or beginners wishing to learn and enjoy the social side. Contact on following page. NEWS FROM THE PAVILION With the first phase heavy weight drainage works now completed we are working busily to reinstate the pitch and anyone wishing to help rake the topsoil level just give us a shout. Excellent for the waistline! We should soon be hearing the sound of leather on willow with Whiteparish cricket club playing on Saturday afternoons through the cricket season. All are welcome to cheer them on.

It is with much excitement and immense relief that we can report that the first phase of the pitch drainage has been completed. The site is a little muddy still but with a final treatment to ‘shock’ the surface and get some grass seed down the warmer weather arriving will do the rest. What a winter we’ve all had!

Rain, rain and more rain have had a severe impact on our ability to host football matches over the last month, and have delayed the start of the next phase of the drainage operation. We’re still on track, though at the mercy of the elements somewhat, but this spell of soggy weather has certainly provided an excellent reminder of why it is so important to get this work completed.
The lighting situation at the tennis courts has now been resolved, and the Sherfield English netball club has been the first recipient of its benefits. We’ve also managed to upgrade the pavilion lighting, so no more tricky moments of darkness looking for the door! We’re grateful to everyone who has helped us get these jobs done, and very much to Nick Adams-King, who we understand has provided a grant to the netball club to help with the installation costs.
We’ve still further exciting developments planned for 2026 so watch this space. Cricket will be starting again in the late spring and the number of football clubs using our facilities continues to grow. With that in mind it’s worth mentioning that the SEFC Ladies Teams are still recruiting for new members. We can’t recommend it enough as this is a chance to experience a great camaraderie and benefit from expert coaching.
