Parish Council Update - 27/08/26

Sherfest was definitely the highlight of the month, with perfect weather (slightly cloudy and pleasantly warm) and very well attended by many from our parish and beyond. As we don't have a pub at the moment it was an ideal place to catch up with friends and acquaintances from the parish. Sherfest was extremely well organised (as usual) with super music, food and drinks. Thanks to all in SERP who helped organise another successful event and hopefully the coffers were swelled accordingly.

This may well be the last mention of The Hatchet for some time. I have had a gloves off conversation with the Star Pubs Sales Director and was informed that there is £415,000 scheduled to be spent on refurbishing the pub, but this will only be undertaken when someone has signed up and paid a deposit on the tenancy. Once that has been done, The Hatchet will stay closed and a firm of contractors will undertake the refurbishment work, which will be about two months. The contractors are not allowed to involve themselves in other projects at the same time; once started they are on site until the work is completed. We'll see..........

Some better news! The bus stop replacement and refurbishment programme is proceeding well. The replacement at The Hatchet stop is excellent, of high quality and in keeping with the area. Thanks to Councillors Dovey and Lewis for their hard work. The surrounding area is also much improved,
