Fordingbridge v Sherfield English Bowls Match Report 19-08-26

With dark clouds in the sky and rain jackets to hand, Sherfield travelled across the New Forest to Fordingbridge. Thankfully all players arrived in plenty of time and the clouds dispersed to reveal the blue sky. Surrounded by brown fields, the green lived up to its billing, an oasis of lush grass. All good so far!

Pre-match, we took part in the ‘spider game’. Money raised for participating went to the home team’s chosen charity, Visual Impaired Bowls England.  Nearest the wood wins, unfortunately on this occasion the player didn’t come from Sherfield English!

A competitive match followed with Fordingbridge winning by 3.5 rinks to 2.5. However, it is the final points total to decide the winners.  The score was so close, Sherfield English winning by a single point!  Well played Sherfield…every single point won made the difference.

Final Result: Fordingbridge 94  - 95 Sherfield English

Rink 2:       Lost     12 - 18    Close game until the last few ends

Rink 3:       Lost     11 - 17.   Bad run in the final third of the match

Rink 4:       Lost     12 - 17    Even after 14 ends, unfortunate result

Rink 5:       Draw   18 - 18.  Sherfield almost won a hard-fought match

Rink 6:       Won   17 - 10   Super win after being behind by 7 points after 9 ends, winning the last 11 ends.  Congratulations Cathy, Terry and Tony.
