SERP2000 News What another fabulous Pop-up-pub at the Pavilion on the 11th September – thank you to all the organisers and helpers! The weather was once again kind and brought the villagers together for a relaxed evening. Sadly the evenings are drawing in and getting cooler but nonetheless fun was had by all. As the evening wore on thoughts turned to the next event and many interesting suggestions were made. From Oktoberfest to a Grand Ball, passing through Pop-upBingo and various drink-inspired original ideas. If anyone would like to organise an event of some kind then please get in touch and let’s see what we can do. The next event is the Sherfield Fireworks on Sunday 1st November and we look forward to seeing you there. The fabulous bar team will be there to serve you and our delicious BBQ will be open for warming food. As the Hatchet is still closed we are looking at ways for the Christmas Carols to take place…. Teething plans at the moment, so watch this space! News From the Pavilion Exciting news - we have been approved for a very generous grant from Test Valley Borough Council and we are delighted to extend our most sincere thanks to them. Thank you also the various individuals and local bodies, including the Sherfield English Parish Council, who have provided support, both moral and financial, with this major project. Facilitated by this grant and after the first phase of the drainage earlier in the year we now have the second phase starting so if you are on site please be aware of any heavy machinery! We will also be seeing the replacement of the outdated sewerage system in the coming months, a huge expense and nothing to see but without which the entire site cannot continue to 11 function and operate. We will also be installing a height restriction barrier at the entrance to enable access without the need to search for a key holder to unlock the gates. This will finally make the children’s playground and sports fields open for all the villagers to enjoy at their leisure. As we whoosh towards autumn the Bowls club are looking towards commencing the greens works after a difficult season of drought, we’re exploring how to increase the area available to cricket along with our friends from Whiteparish Cricket Club, Sherfield English Netball Club goes from strength to strength and the football teams are back training hard. We are expecting that the drainage works will allow consistent play without the extreme waterlogging of last season. When the newly drained and seeded bottom pitch is once again open for play there will be games both Saturday and Sunday throughout the season. Please go along and support your local teams, both the men’s and the women’s, as spectators cheering them on from the sidelines are a great motivator.
